About Swaap
Swaap is a French startup formed in 2021 building and operating trading systems on the blockchain.
The Challenge
Since being founded in 2021, Swaap had been using Google Cloud Platform (GCP). However, it had experienced some challenges with their GCP infrastructure.
Ultimately, Swaap sought to reduce costs and improve resilience by migrating from GCP to AWS – enhancing infrastructure scalability, redundancy, and observability in order to accelerate growth.
The Solution
Automat-it worked with Swaap to migrate the startup to AWS. This began with a migration scope involving a detailed review and evaluation of current load, resource utilization, and layout.
Based on this, Automat-it implemented the migration of applications and data. This included a number of activities to create the most efficient and optimized AWS infrastructure. Specifically implementing:
- Kubernetes (Amazon EKS) for scalability and resilience, using a combination of Keda and Karpenter to handle scalability needs
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to build new environments and enable automation
The Results
Following the migration to AWS, Swaap was able to achieve its goals to reduce costs and improve resilience, scalability, and observability – creating an environment that put them in a much stronger position to scale. Specific results included:
- Lower cloud costs were achieved by optimizing resource use, sizing infrastructure using Kubernetes, and improving parallelism
- Migration to AWS improved scalability with automated deployments and scaling – enabling faster time-to-market
- Introduced fault-tolerant architecture
- Greater resilience was achieved through multi-AZ architecture
- Improved uptime
- Total downtime during the migration process was less than four hours
